Shashinki.com

Spirit Level on Pentax K10DAnother good shopping experience, this time online at Shashinki.com.

I've been aware of this website for a while and have been drooling over many of the photography items they sell. Just never brought myself to order anything - all my photography purchases have always been offline.

But last Thursday I had one of those moments of impulse online buying. It was early in the morning at the office, going through my RSS feeds and somehow ended up at Shashinki... Before I knew it, I've placed an order for 2 items i.e. a camera strap and spirit level for a total RM63 - cheap and free shipping, which is why the decision was easy.

(post continue below...)

Not to mention I actually need the stuff anyway. Having a DSLR with 300mm lens hanging on your shoulder (or neck!) with the original strap all day long is definitely not a good idea, as I experienced recently back home in KK. But you might wonder what's a spirit level...? Well, it's just that, a spirit level which, in this case is attached on the flash mounting shoe on top of a DSLR. It really helps level your camera when taking landscape pictures, especially when there's the horizon in there somewhere. Most of my post processing involves straightening slanted horizon, be it the sea or faraway hills and mountains.

Chipped spirit levelThis is where sites like Shashinki.com is a godsend. It's very hard to find such simple photography accessories in KL and even when it's available, the prices are always unreasonable. More than that, I must say that they also provides a very quick and friendly service. The spirit level had a chip on the mounting part when I received it on Friday, probably damaged during shipment. So I emailed them a photo of it and they shipped the replacement on Monday, delivered to the office the very next day free of charge. What more can one ask for?

I know there are a lot of you guys out there who don't have access to good photography shops in your city/town. I can definitely recommend this place. Have a look at their feedback page here, you will see many, many more comments from satisfied customers not just from Malaysia, but also from other countries as far away as Denmark and UK.

As for me, well... I'm definitely looking forward to my next purchase now... maybe a grip and an extra battery? :)
