Tamron SP F 7-Element 2x Teleconverter

Tamron SP F 7-Element 2x TeleconverterThis particular photography accessory is usually referred to as tc's or teleconverters / tele-converters. I don't have much in-depth knowledge on them but one thing I know is that they can extend the reach of the lens attached to one. And this Tamron baby is a 2x TC, does that mean that it doubles the reach by a factor of 2? Not sure. But I know that it definitely extended the reach of my lenses.

I bought this unit second-hand for about RM100 in immaculate condition so I don't have much to complain really. I also just bought a new Sigma 70-300mm, which I'm very happy with and I thought, maybe this can help me get a better shot of the moon - something I've been wanting to do for a long time.

(post continue below...)

The images below demonstrate how far this has extended my camera's reach, from its humble beginning with the kit-lens. And what else to shoot if not one of my favorite scenes - the view of Kuala Lumpur from my balcony. All three images were shot with Pentax K10D at max focal length of the respective lenses.

As I've mentioned somewhere else, the hunt is now on for a new, or preferably second-hand tripod. The cheapy that came as a package with the K10D is now useless. In fact the whole set-up actually broke the head mechanism, and is the reason for the slightly soft 2nd and 3rd images. Oh, and a lens/tripod ring too. Damn... this IS an expensive hobby...

Update: I mentioned about taking a shot of the moon, so here it is :D Go to the gallery for a larger version of the photo.
