Tripod: Velbon VGB-3

Velbon VGB-3Yeah, I said I'm gonna get me a tripod. So I got me a tripod. It's called Velbon. Most of you probably never heard of it before :)

Anyway, to be specific this is Velbon VGB-3. I'm not too sure from what year but it's definitely very old. I've read somewhere that some people have had it since the 70s! I got it for RM150 but let me tell you this - I was totally blown away by the condition it was in. Immaculate is da word, brotha! Hahaha... And just like many things manufactured back then, the build quality is almost as good as military grade by today's standards. It's all-metal, solid and sturdy, with very smooth panning movements all around. Even the cork padding on the plate is still in perfect condition! You heard that right, cork, not rubber.

This unit comes with a detachable three-way-head so I can actually use a ball-head if I need to. I've tested it with the Sigma 70-300 + Tamron TC on a K10D, an external flash just to be sure, and took some shots at max focal length inside the shopping complex. Hell yeah, it's definitely more than good enough to support the setup with much, much more to spare.

No I did not use the flash to shoot something 100 meters away. Anyone going camping? Can I join...?

I also have the VGB-3, A friend gave this to me as a gift, I think he brought this in Singapore as a used one, It is so good, very stable and so tough, as long as it is not broken, I will not trade this with another brand..I'll just put some levelling kits to catch up with the ground level.
